I always watch movies alone in cinemas. Even in the Philippines, I always watch in solitude so I can assess the movie and enjoy it at the same time. Then it comes a time when I get tired of watching alone. So I asked an office mate of mine to watch a movie with me, knowing it is what we are both interested in, but she apparently turned me down. After I watched the movie, it got me I’m thinking, I should be named ‘Solo’ too.
Solo: A Star Wars Story is about Han Solo. From what he was up to the guy we know about him so well. The time setting of this is I believe between ‘Revenge of the Sith’ and ‘Rogue One’.
I am getting mixed reactions about this movie. It is good but not as good as its predecessors. The actor, Alden Ehrenreich who plays Han Solo doesn’t have any similarities with Harrison Ford but he is a good actor. Sadly, he does not have Ford’s charisma. The supporting characters are okay. Chewbacca is the same as before. Danny Glover as Lando Calrissian works pretty well. Emily Clarke as Qi’ra seemed bland for me. It looks like movies doesn’t suit well for her, or it is just me.
The story is not that complicated. It actually suits more as a TV episode rather than a movie. But it does have some ‘Rogue One’ “flavor” into it. To explain it more, they put in dark gritty scenes of war. They have an amount of deaths here and would make you sympathize with the character they left behind. Their jokes are not as funny as they should be but you’ll get a few laughs here.
All in all, it is a good movie. It is just not good enough to get excited about to watch in a cinema.
I’ll rate this movie 7/10.
